The Feeding South Florida School Pantry Program (FSFSPP) is FSF’s most innovative way of reaching children (and their families) when school is not in session during the most critical times: after school, weekends, and holidays.

FSF’s SPP serves not only students, but also their siblings and parents in a safe environment with which they’re already familiar – their school! In addition to providing shelf-stable items, the FSFSPP also provides fresh and nutritious fruits and vegetables, in addition to benefits assistance and nutrition education.

Without proper nutrition, kids can’t concentrate or perform well in school. Our School Pantry Program, brings food to K-12 students and families in need. Now active in 8 schools throughout our quad-county service area, the School Pantry Program provides students with access to fresh foods and shelf-stable staples right at their own schools.

Twice a month, Feeding South Florida delivers shelf-stable items that fill the pantry, which is accessible as each school sees fit for its students and parents. Twice a month, FSF provides perishable and nutritious items such as fruits and vegetables in a farmer’s market style setting, to ensure maximum choice for families in need of assistance.

Currently there are eight sites enrolled in the School Pantry Program.

Palm Beach County
Lincoln Elementary School
Pahokee Elementary School
Westward Elementary School

Broward County
Pompano Beach Elementary School

Miami-Dade County
Henry ES Reeves Elementary School
Jesse J. McCrary Elementary School
Melrose Elementary School
North County K-8

Each School Pantry is chosen through Feeding South Florida’s gap analysis and food insecurity index, targeting high-need and low-serviced areas. All schools must be Title I Elementary Schools. Other variables factored into the gap analysis is the food insecurity index, percentage of students enrolled in federal nutrition programs, median household income, SNAP enrollment, and demographics. FSF is only able to expand the School Pantry Program with the support of generous donors.
